Who Says? A classroom syllabus

Below is a copy of the syllabus for Speech and Debate 2. This is a class of opinions and arguments. Because of this, it is important to note that this class is a safe space where we will respect one another's ideas and perspectives. You won't always agree, but that doesn't mean you have to stop respecting someone.

Course Description: This course is designed to give students the necessary skills to be outstanding orators (public speakers). Through mixed media and speech formats students will explore, enhance, and expand their knowledge of public speaking and their ability to orate publicly. Students will also increase their knowledge of and ability to use specific vocabulary as it pertains to public speaking and other academic endeavors.

3. Use electronic technology for research, commercial production, and interpersonal communication.

4. Compose and orate original speeches and recite previously written public works according to their content.

Required Materials:

1. Dedicated class folder/notebook 2. Writing utensils (pen/pencils)

3. Highlighters 4. Loose-leaf paper

Attendance: Students are expected to be in their classroom and in their seat when the bell rings. If a student is absent from class they are responsible for speaking with Ms. Young about any missing work.

Safe Environment Classroom: This class requires a student to stand in front of their peers and present their opinions and feeling on various topics through verbal communication. This can be a challenging and frightening experience. Therefore, the classroom must be a safe and supportive environment. Both the teacher and students are expected to positively reinforce, constructively criticize, and aid one another during class time.
